DUXBURY, Mass - (4) Bridgewater-Raynham has already shown they
are a team to be reckoned with two quality road wins against Top 25 opponents.
After heading up to Danvers last week to beat (5) St. John’s Prep the Trojans
took the 20 mile trip to (13) Duxbury High School.
After an uneventful first quarter Duxbury’s Victor Moitinho intercepted a
B-R pitch and took it to the house for a 78 yard touchdown with 8:14 left in the
second quarter. Bridgewater- Raynham got on the board with 0:50 in the second
quarter with an Arcel Armstead Touchdown making the game tied at 7-7 going into
halftime.
B-R’s decision to defer to the second half nearly cost them as the
Trojans fumbled the ball on the kickoff. Duxbury was unable to capitalize but
did take a 10-7 lead with 2:46 left in the third quarter on a field goal.
Junior Brandon Gallagher scored the game-winning touchdown by jumping
over the line with 8:10 left in the fourth quarter to take a 13-10 lead after a
missed B-R extra point. On the following kick-off the Dragons’ returner caused
some controversy as he muffled the catch which rolled out of the end-zone and
was ruled a touchback instead of a safety.
Duxbury’s final attempt of a victory was swatted away on a 4th
down throw with 1:21 left in the game. The Trojans kneeled twice to cap of
Duxbury’s first home loss since September 2009.
After the game B-R Head Coach Dan Burron commented “these road victories
are sweet, we went to St. John’s last week, going here (Duxbury), and going up
to Xaverian next week, it’s just going to get us ready for league
play”
When asked about the level of confidence level about acing facing same
schedule as in 2012 (Trojans went 5-6) Burron said “this game is a confidence
booster, and I said to the team tonight is that we are known for scheduling
tough opponents and playing everyone tough but not getting it done” and then
continued to say “we got it done last week, but it won’t mean a thing if we
can’t get it done this week”
Coach Burron commented on Junior Quarterback Matt Clement’s gutsy
performance. Clement’s father suffered a heart attack while running the B-R
track early Saturday morning and underwent a successful
surgery.
The B-R Trojans move to (2-0; 0-0) and take on (14) Xaverian while the
Duxbury Dragons move to (1-1; 0-0) and have a bye week before opening up league
play at Silver Lake on Saturday September 28th.
